This row of cottages housed village industries before being joined together to form a public house in 1860. In summer colourful flowerbeds, tubs and hanging baskets create quite a display, while the interior – rich with dark wood furniture and gleaming brass – generates year-round appeal. A range of cask-conditioned Cheshire ales from Weetwood in Tarporley is supported by a good selection of wines sold by the glass. The menu is strong on comfort food, such as fish and chips, along with more complex choices such as main courses of sticky sesame chilli beef with cashew nuts and noodle salad. Dessert offers things like sticky toffee pudding and lemon meringue sundae.
