Welcoming pub with interesting menu of global dishes

At a glance

Bar menu
Open all year

A typically solid Victorian building built about 1850 by John Walter III, grandson of the man who founded The Times newspaper. The idea was that it should be a working men’s club for the workers on the Bearwood Estate, where Walter lived. Now a popular dining pub, the seasonal menus offer traditional English dishes, such as chargrilled rib-eye steak with roasted winter veg; or sausage and mash; as well as pasta, stone-baked pizzas, and seafood and Arabian-style ‘smörgåsbord’. If there's still room, spiced sticky toffee pudding or rhubarb and apple crumble should fill you up. The beer garden is a good spot for a pint of Courage Best.
