Formerly the Bricklayers Arms, this popular Newbury pub is now owned by Greene King, whose ales are showcased across the handpumps on the bar. Through the elegant portico from the street there’s a spacious bar, lounge and dining areas, and a roof terrace. The charcoal oven is the showpiece of the kitchen and top notch beef and lamb steaks are served with all the proper garnishes and triple cooked chips or fries. Other options might include steamed steak and kidney suet pudding; beer-battered Cornish haddock, crushed peas and skinny fries; or chickpea and coriander burger in a brioche bun.
