Best practice for workstation usage

This helps the employee set up their Display Screen Equipment [DSE] and working environment so that they are comfortable during the working day and thus fully productive

One of the first non driving-related health and safety e-learning modules available from AA DriveTech is entitled ‘Workstation Training and Assessment’. It can accessed either as part of the ‘FleetRiskManager’ e-learning suite or as a stand alone e-learning module, and there is a version available for the partially sighted.

The module helps the employee set up their Display Screen Equipment [DSE] and working environment so that they are comfortable during the working day and thus fully productive. Its interactive approach, using diagrams, graphics and questions, helps the employee to understand the key issues and receive guidance on achieving the optimum working posture whilst using the DSE.

The module covers:

  • The set up and adjustment of chairs and desks
  • Recommendations for the correct body posture when seated
  • The need for and positioning of footrests
  • Optimum positioning of screens to avoid glare and reflections
  • The correct use of keyboards and mouse to avoid strain
  • Posture recommendations for laptop, as opposed to PC,  use
  • The importance of regular eye sight tests
  • Best practice on the taking of rest breaks

We feel this new e-learning module will deliver key office-based health and safety messages in a much more interesting and visual way than by more conventional means

Once the module is completed there is a short quiz to gauge the level of understanding, followed by a more formal assessment, enabling the employee to send detailed feedback to their line manager.
