The plaque on wall outside this theatreland dining institution and celebrity favourite commemorates the fact that The Ivy has been open for a century and it is business as usual since its recent redesign. The original harlequin stained-glass windows, green leather banquettes, mirrors and specially commissioned artwork set the scene for a menu of classic British and international food. Start with dressed Cornish crab, Melba toast and celeriac remoulade, then shepherd’s pie or grilled corn-fed chicken with cauliflower tabbouleh, hummus and barbecued aubergine. Don’t think about skipping dessert – try the chocolate and blood orange steamed sponge pudding with custard.
