This stylish pub boasts plenty of quirky touches, right down to sheepskin throws on the high-backed benches and deer skulls, some of which sport sunglasses and scarves. A meal here showcases some modern British cooking of considerable poise and confidence, with pub classics sitting shoulder to shoulder with more fine-dining dishes. Start with goats' cheese and honey mousse with pistachio crumb, red pepper coulis and herb oil, before a generously proportioned warm salad of roasted guinea fowl with wild mushrooms, Parma ham and new potatoes. Impressive pastry skills are evident in a white chocolate and raspberry crème brûlée. Service from relaxed and friendly staff is informal and personable.
