At the foot of the South Downs in the peaceful village of Funtington, Halliday’s occupies three flint-fronted thatched cottages dating from the 13th century. Chef and owner Andy Stephenson sources first-rate produce from the local area. A typical dinner menu might begin with warm Roquefort, spinach and poached egg tartlet before moving on to wild stone bass, steamed samphire and shellfish sauce. Meatier mains include duo of pork belly and slow-braised cheek with quince relish. To finish, try iced mango and lime parfait, fresh pineapple salad and coconut meringue or a carefully curated selection of artisan British cheeses.
