In an imposing 1884 red-brick building in the right-on Jewellery Quarter, you can sip an aperitif in the Bubble Lounge Bar or head downstairs to the vaulted Pub du Vin before dining in the stylish restaurant, with its Gallic-inspired decor of bare floorboards and round-backed wooden chairs at polished tables. Kick off with Comté cheese soufflé or seared scallops with sauce vièrge before tucking into one of the plats principaux: roast cod fillet with braised Puy lentils, button onions and pancetta, say, or beef bourguignon on the bone. End with that English favourite of treacle tart with clotted cream ice cream or cross the Channel for tarte au citron.
