Beyond the impressive half-timbered façade of this 16th-century former residence lie oak-beamed public areas and Will's Place, the hotel's opulent dining room, where the menu lists modern British dishes to satisfy most tastes. Start perhaps with an attractive starter of crisply crumbed boiled egg with sautéed wild mushrooms and a sherry dressing, before moving on to well-presented slow-roasted pork belly served with sticky red cabbage, fondant potato, pickled apples, apple purée, seared scallop and 'natural' jus. Desserts take a keep-it-simple approach with, for instance, warm treacle tart with clotted cream and a raspberry garnish. Traditional afternoon tea is served in the beautiful courtyard garden throughout the spring and summer.
