The spacious, glass-fronted brasserie, with its polished wooden floor, leather banquettes and neatly clothed tables, remains as buzzy as ever, with slick and smooth service ensuring that all is as it should be, and the appealing modern brasserie-style dishes playing a big part in the attraction. Terrine of Northumbrian game, hazelnuts and pistachios with quince chutney is one way in, then main course could offer pot roast pheasant with chestnut stuffing, grapes and Sauternes, or a straight-up rib-eye of Himalayan salt-aged beef with red wine sauce. Puddings can be a highlight, among them warm sticky ginger sponge with toffee apples and Calvados cream.
