A charming hostelry with quarry-tiled floors, exposed red-brick walls and a double-height ceiling in the dining area with oak beams and the original well. Fish dishes are nicely considered and well timed, from a slate-plated starter of seared scallops and tempura squid with chorizo dressing, to mains such as sea bass with saffron potatoes in seaweed butter. There are quality meats too, like saddle and confit leg of rabbit with smoked pancetta and butter bean ragout. Veggies might opt for chickpea and bean curry on saffron pilaf, while kids get their own menu. At close of business, the vanilla pannacotta is properly fragile and comes with lime-poached strawberries.
