Mariners has quite a history: built as a gunboat in Bruges in 1899, it was sunk in 1940, became a hospital ship in the 1950s and was an Italian restaurant in Ipswich before becoming a French brasserie in 1994, moored on Neptune Quay in the marina. The decor features polished brass, burnished wood, chandeliers, muted blue upholstery and crisp tablecloths. Start with boneless brill fillet, curried salmon mousse and baby spinach millefeuille with butternut squash emulsion. Progress to pan-fried fillet of Scottish salmon, creamy wild mushroom Carnaroli risotto, soft-poached egg, and finish on iced pistachio and almond nougat with red fruit coulis.
