Twenty-five acres of mature gardens run down to the shore of Loch Ard at this white-painted mansion, where 'keep it simple' might be the kitchen's mantra and flavours are undiluted by an over-abundance of ingredients. Brie and red onion tart with herb salad is an effective starter, contrasting with the relative complexity of seared cod fillet atop a pancake rolled around creamed smoked mackerel. Braised lamb shoulder, of beautifully tender meat, comes with rosemary jus, buttery mash, cabbage and baby onions, alongside another sensibly composed main course of seared salmon fillet with ratatouille and wilted spinach. Finish with satsuma crème brûlée with decadent chocolate chip cookies.
