Nonnas is a bustling, good-natured Italian restaurant with friendly staff, café-style marble-topped tables and green walls. This is an imaginative kitchen turning out properly cooked, highly original dishes. Rigatoni is sauced with duck leg braised in vin santo, with sausage and sage, and linguine with crab, chilli and fennel. Among accomplished secondi there might be the vivid combinations of Merlot-braised oxtail with beetroot mash and horseradish canederli (bread dumplings) and grilled sea bass fillet with borlotti bean and tomato stew and rosemary aïoli. Inspired puddings have included chocolate and beetroot cake with sweet beetroot and balsamic ripple ice cream alongside classic tiramisù.
