This Georgian former hunting lodge turned restaurant with rooms is a convivial hub where people pop in for a jar of ale or cider in the bar, or for a full meal in the restaurant, while on a fine day, alfresco dining is on the cards in the courtyard and walled garden. Expect big-hearted cooking that seeks to comfort rather than challenge, with well-considered combinations - crab and tomato tartlet, followed by guinea fowl breast with truffle mousse, local pancetta, mash spring greens and herb jus, and for pudding, perhaps treacle tart with lemon curd and home-made buttermilk ice cream.
