The Chequers has been providing drink and victuals since 1776. Food is the core of the operation, with all ingredients sourced locally and everything made from scratch. Start with that old stager, salt and pepper squid with garlic aïoli, if you like, but why not step outside the box with something like seared scallops with smoked pork belly, cauliflower, candied lime and cumin velouté? For main course try super-fresh lemon sole partnered with a crab bonbon and bisque, fennel, samphire, saffron potatoes and marinated tomato, or perhaps venison haunch with smoked garlic dauphinoise, red cabbage and blackberries. End on a high with burnt custard flavoured with mango, passionfruit and coconut.
