Good honest cooking in a lovely village pub

Open all year

Wines by the glass

This is the kind of country pub that spurs urbanites to up sticks and move to a rural idyll. It's a proper pub, with a changing rota of ales and a serious approach to food. The kitchen keeps things local, seeking out organic and free-range ingredients to treat with simplicity and integrity. A bowl of celeriac and Bramley apple soup is just the ticket, simple and well-made, enriched with toasted walnuts and Blue Vinney cheese. Main course might be well-timed roast cod in lemongrass velouté, with creamy, garlicky dauphinoise and a side-dish of veg, and the conclusion could be hot chocolate fondant with salt caramel centre and pistachio ice cream.
