Dating from Tudor times and first licensed in 1790, the Crown has a full quota of carved beams, flagstone floors and inglenook fireplaces spread over a brace of cosy and cottagey dining rooms, including a first-floor restaurant which was a courtroom in the 17th century. The kitchen has a 'Local to Ludlow' policy that might take in chicken and herb terrine with tarragon mayo and pickled mushrooms for starters, followed by satisfying mains such as roast rump of local lamb with celeriac purée, and broad bean and bacon fricassee. For afters, how about warm spiced carrot cake with butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream?
