The old stagecoach doesn't run past here any more, but an enduring testament to the last time it did comes with a Victorian timetable in the bar. The Bear goes back further than that, to the reign of Henry III in the 1430s. Its traditional interiors and ancient arched cellar where the beers are kept are all part of the deal, as is vibrant modern food with the emphasis on regionally sourced ingredients. Start with Cajun-spiced fishcake with lemon and chilli dip, before going on to prime Welsh steak with port and Stilton sauce. Simple but effective desserts include rice pudding with winter berry compôte.
