Doxford Hall's restaurant has chandeliers in ornate ceilings, a stone fireplace, deep-red walls and menus reflecting 21st-century dining expectations. Seared scallops with two croquettes of slowly cooked pig's cheek and celeriac remoulade is a starter of intense, distinct flavours, as is rabbit and Parma ham rillette with beetroot and truffled mayonnaise. Mains might be roast loin of lamb with a copper pan of braised meat topped with a cobbler along with a spoonful of pea and onion fricassée and a glossy sauce, or curried fish pie and a soft-boiled duck's egg accompanying roast fillet of hake. Pudding could be moist lemon cake with matching iced parfait and lemony caramel sauce.
