A charming hotel surrounded by splendid gardens and a Grade I listed orangery, Barton Hall dates from the 16th-century. The hotel’s Vines Brasserie is a welcoming place with informal service matched by unclothed tables and modern background music to create a relaxed setting for the innovative cooking. A starter of ham hock terrine is partnered with bacon mayonnaise and puffed pork skin, whilst a main course of braised lamb arrives with herb crumb, parmesan polenta, chantenay carrots, kale, salsify and red wine jus. Desserts are no less impressive: try lime baked Alaska , pomegranate granite and lime curd.
