Classical cooking in a Nidderdale village

The Station is a venerable greystone building in a village on the edge of Nidderdale, near Harrogate. The pick of the eating areas is the smart room that looks over the garden, but the main menu is served throughout. Classical cooking is given a high shine, so expect superior fish and chips and properly lush toffee pudding. Otherwise, there may be generously packed hot-smoked salmon fishcakes with a dollop of crème fraîche, prior to venison bourguignonne with cheesy dumplings of Harrogate Blue, or classic fish pie, bursting with haddock, salmon and king prawns under a layer of parmesan mash. Deep-filled treacle tart comes with lemon mascarpone.
