Cobbled together from a pair of Regency-era houses, The Mount Royale Hotel brings a country-house atmosphere to the city. The kitchen combines simple flavours to good effect. Start with a perfectly timed roast breast of quail with goats’ cheese and potato terrine along with pickled pears and smoked garlic vinaigrette. For mains, poached lemon sole, celeriac, baby gem, wild mushroom and honey chicken jus, and for meat fans, there could be roast loin of Yorkshire venison with pearl barley and venison shoulder ragout. To finish, lemon pannacotta comes with milk ice cream, honey, almonds and oat crumb.
