Cobbled together from a pair of Regency-era houses, The Mount Royale Hotel brings a country-house atmosphere to the city. The kitchen celebrates Yorkshire produce, beginning with ham hock and parsley terrine with a quail's egg, and Wensleydale cheese and pineapple salad pointed with honey and mustard dressing. For mains, a prime piece of turbot is poached in butter and supported by Whitby crab and tarragon gnocchi, peas, samphire, and champagne butter sauce. Local meat fans might go for rump of Yorkshire lamb with dauphinoise potatoes, red wine-braised baby onions, butternut squash and redcurrant and rosemary jus. To finish, crème brûlée comes with raspberry and saffron, macadamia shortbread and raspberry coulis.
