Princess Mary, one of the Queen's aunts, lived in this 1620s stately home until 1929. The Dining Room is small with large, widely spaced, formally laid tables. In one corner sits a baby grand, antique furniture is dotted around, and the marble fireplace is a corker. White-gloved staff serve from the informal Garden menu, a seven-course taster, or the carte, the source of inspiration for a typical meal of, say, salad of Whitby crab with Indian mango and tempura fennel, crispy ballotine of chicken with sunblushed tomato, asparagus and tarragon jus, and rhubarb pannacotta with poached rhubarb and ginger parkin. Meals may also be taken in the Princess Mary Drawing Room.
