Winning menus in a popular gastro-pub

'Eat, drink, relax' is the motto of this gastro pub, and it's made easy by boutique bedrooms and a dose of rustic-chic style with the original oak beams, exposed stone and panelling. Expect welcoming log fires, a bright patio in summer, and Scotland's larder forming the backbone of the kitchen's output. An eclectic menu delivers pub classics as well as contemporary offerings such as braised pig's cheek with black pudding, apple and parsnip purée and crisp Serrano ham. Mains could bring venison loin with date purée, poached blackberries, celeriac dauphinoise and roast peanut crumb. Beer from Stewart's of Edinburgh and a well-chosen wine list complete the picture.
