Seasonal Umbrian cooking in hospitable Soho favourite

This stalwart of the Soho dining scene has been plying its trade since 1971 but a recent makeover has given the old girl a more modern, clean-lined and arty look. The handwritten menu changes after each serving, so you can take seasonality for granted. Rustic, home-style cooking delivers clear flavours; splendid pasta is made fresh daily, as seen in a starter of pappardelle with lamb and fresh pea ragù, followed by a splendid fillet of cod served with sautéed courgettes, sherry tomatoes, spring onion and new potatoes. Among meatier fare, there might be roast Tuscan sausages with truffle butter, pecorino, pancetta and lentils, and to finish, there's a textbook pannacotta with strawberries.
