Terroirs is a buzzy, split-level affair: you enter on the ground floor, the downstairs space is dominated by a big zinc-topped bar, and you can eat where you like. The style is provincial French cooking with a nod towards the Mediterranean. Kick off with snails on toast with silky garlic and parsley sauce and bacon. Dishes are never over-complicated or ostentatiously novel, and flavours are big and hearty, as in a main course of Lanarkshire lamb shoulder served in lamb broth with turnips, carrots, leeks, pearl barley and mint. As a finale, a textbook jiggly pannacotta with tangy pink forced rhubarb is hard to beat.
