After winning much acclaim at the rustic glasshouse restaurant of Petersham Nurseries, Skye Gyngell has brought her trademark style to the grander stage of Somerset House. The regularly-changing Mediterranean menu delivers good-looking plates of seasonal fare with flavours that shine. A knockout starter of squid with chilli oil and mashed broad beans shows a kitchen that knows what works with what, while generous mains triumph with a pairing of grilled lamb and asparagus, boosted by a clear-flavoured lovage salsa verde. The lightest black treacle cake is cleverly teamed with citrus curd, warming candied ginger and zesty clementine. Though prices are high, a fixed-price lunch option eases the bottom line.
