The glass-fronted brasserie championed a new brisk informality in high-end dining when it opened in 1987. In an atmosphere of infectious buzz, with a large communal table for the sociably inclined, the fish and seafood catches of the day receive due credit. Kick things off with a textbook fish soup, served with rouille, croùtons and gruyère, and happiness is assured. Main dishes take in Shetland mussels marinière, garlic and parsley; and 200g Chateaubriand, triple-cooked chips and béarnaise sauce for meatheads. All are reunited for tempting desserts like chocolate pot, salted caramel popcorn with banana and lime.
