Buzzy spot for switched-on Spanish tapas

The Barrafina brand is clearly on a roll with its lively repertoire of classic and modern tapas dishes, its theatreland outpost the perfect spot for diners who want to graze through a few little plates of big flavours in the pre- and post-theatre slots. The Spanglish menu and daily specials (chatty staff are happy to translate) deal in everything from traditional plates of cold meats – Ibérica bellota ham, say – or deep-fried baby squid. Otherwise, go for intensely flavoured oxtail faggot or a rich pie filled with inky-black cuttlefish. The place operates a no-bookings policy and takes groups of up to four people.
