The blank grey frontage and spare office-canteen interior design are very much of the moment at Mark Jarvis's venue near the Hatton Garden jewellery quarter and Leather Lane market. Consecrated to the celebration of home produce, as is indicated by the name, the cooking matches contemporary ingenuity with a colourful, high-impact look on the plate, showing an essential lightness of touch but without any compromise on concentrated flavours. After a nibble of sourdough bread with yeast butter, the set tasting menus might open with optionally truffled potato dumplings in curds and whey, before pairing scallops with white asparagus, and then bathing Loch Duart salmon in buttermilk and wild garlic. Main course could be premium chicken accoutred with leeks and celeriac, a dish that rises out of the pub food ethos to produce something remarkable. A pre-dessert of Jerusalem artichoke in maple syrup leads on to a brace of sweeties – chocolate with cranberry and rhubarb, then coconut with lemon thyme and grapefruit. A vegetarian version is offered too, as are two grades of drinks pairing to accompany it all, with craft beers inveigling themselves among the wines.
