The bar, with an open fireplace, flagstones and real ales, is the hub of this Grade II listed inn. A typical main might be two ways with beef (fillet and rillette), for instance, accompanied by Madeira sauce, a fricassée of greens, pommes Anna and wild mushrooms, and pan-fried sea bass fillet with crispy Parma ham, pesto mash and ratatouille. Starters tick all the right boxes too, taking in carefully grilled red mullet fillets with parmesan polenta and tomato fondue, and deep-fried squid with Thai noodles and sweet chilli dip, while puddings include apple crumble tart with blackberry ripple ice cream.
