Branston Hall is a handsome old pile, with lofty decorative gables, pinnacle chimneys and interiors that evoke a more gentle pace of life. The Lakeside dining room follows the restful theme, with views over the park, and a culinary style which adds gently modernised twists to the classical country house repertoire - pulled pork, for example, in a composition with Orkney scallops, pease pudding, quail's egg and bacon. At main course stage, Gressingham duck breast is partnered by spiced pumpkin purée, fried kale, Agen prunes and a rich orange and pomegranate sauce. To finish, there's a millefeuille of peanut mousse and chocolate pannacotta with caramel sauce.
