Owned by Thwaites Brewery, whose ales are at the pumps, it's not all about beer at this old coaching inn. It also deals in feel-good menus that offer up pub classics, lunchtime sandwiches, locally sourced steaks cooked on the grill, and a few global flavours. Begin with a charcuterie board or go for duck spring rolls with plum sauce. Main courses can be as traditional as home-made burger or breaded chicken with garlic and herb butter. Those steaks are aged for 28 days - flat iron, maybe, or 8oz rib-eye - and come with flat-cap mushroom, baked tomato and thick-cut chips. Among desserts, sticky toffee pudding shows the style.
