Lost among the back lanes of deepest Kent, The Mulberry Tree's relaxed dining area comes as a surprise with its light contemporary style, wooden floors, bare tables and boldly patterned wallpaper. Diners come for well-tuned British cooking with European accents using local ingredients from a kitchen that bangs the drum for Kent’s fine produce. Start with pan-roasted wood pigeon with pancetta, glazed baby onions and wild mushrooms and move on to grilled sea bass and seared scallops with shaved fennel, burnt lemon purée and chive fish sauce, or roast venison with sweet potato dauphinoise, onion purée, toasted hazelnuts and juniper sauce. End with the likes of tonka bean crème brûlée.
