The gloriously rural 17th-century Black Lion was derelict before new owners took over. Today's whitewashed inn features slate floors and Welsh fabrics ensuring a sense of place. There are real ales on tap, but it's very much a dining pub, with the kitchen using local supplies and home-grown salads and veg. Y Cwt Caws goats' cheese and red pepper pannacotta has just the right amount of wobble, served with a balsamic reduction and peppery leaves, and main courses include beer-battered haddock and chips, or soft and melting pork belly with black pudding fritter and maple cream sauce. Finish with Welsh cheeses or a seasonal fruit tart.
