Plush island retreat with modern Scottish cooking

With views over Knock Castle and the Sound of Sleat, the whitewashed Toravaig House serves up an enviable Skye vista. The hotel has classy interiors, with high-quality fixtures and fittings, and its restaurant is a smart candlelit space. The cooking takes a modern Scottish path, in keeping with the majestic surroundings, and produces well-crafted plates of food. Island scallops come in a creative combination with confit carrot, mustard dressing and smoked cheddar. There's a nifty wild mushroom velouté next, followed by a main course such as Barbary duck breast with pearl barley and caramelised shallots. Finish with Blairgowrie raspberries with white chocolate and oregano oil.
