Occupying a corner spot on the main road through Spean Bridge, the low-roofed, whitewashed building offers four smart bedrooms so you can stop over and spoil yourself with top seasonal cooking. Russell's is in the 'Smiddyhouse', once the village blacksmith's, and is an intimate, candlelit spot with crisp linen-clothed tables decked with sparkling glasses and fresh flowers. Well-presented modern Scottish cuisine makes good use of top-notch local materials, as in a starter of salmon and prawn roulade with citrus fruits and crème fraîche, followed by herb-crusted salmon with fish velouté, or perhaps some seasonal Highland game. Chocolate and hazelnut profiteroles make for a comforting finale.
