The original stable block of the Georgian mansion has been given a modern makeover under its rafters and is now the informal eatery at The Grove. The open-to-view kitchen is equipped with a wood-fired oven and chargrill, but the menu has a lot more going for it than pizzas and steaks. Imaginative starters run from Buffalo mozzarella with truffled grilled artichokes and caper dressing to duck Scotch egg with home-made piccalilli. Seafood gets a good airing, from marinated salmon fillet with aubergine caponata to linguini with dressed white Cornish crab. Walled garden apple tarte tatin with vanilla ice cream and butterscotch sauce is a popular finisher.
