A complex of barns on a working farm has been skilfully converted into this characterful modern hotel. The restaurant is a handsome room with a beamed ceiling above rafters, mustard-yellow banquettes, a boarded floor and bare-topped wooden tables. Many of the kitchen's raw materials are produced on-site, with the rest assiduously sourced. The menu is a slate of highly original, well-executed ideas, like black pudding Scotch egg with celeriac remoulade and tomato chutney, or cured and charred salmon with watercress and a parsley cake. Mains include turbot fillet with braised oxtail, beetroot and Russian salad, or chicken breast with braised leeks and artichoke purée.
