Sympathetically remodelled, The Three Tuns retains its olden-times charm, with winter fires, exposed brickwork, and stuffed birds in glass cases. An extensive menu of pub classics aims to please all comers. Meaty things are dependably satisfying, as for ham hock terrine with piccalilli and pea shoots, or mains such as braised lamb shoulder in pan juices with fondant potato and puréed carrots. If it's fish you're after, there will be much rejoicing over devilled whitebait with aïoli, followed perhaps by grilled mackerel with courgettes and spring onions in salsa verde. Proceedings conclude with stickily glazed, citrussy treacle tart and vanilla ice cream, or chocolate marquise with salted caramel ice cream.
