This 16th-century coaching inn is still very much a pub offering local ales, but it's also a dining destination with low-ceilinged dining room and an orangery extension opening up to the garden. There are en suite bedrooms, too. The kitchen makes good use of local foodstuffs, sending out the likes of beetroot-cured trout with horseradish pannacotta and smoked trout Scotch egg, while main course might see confit belly and braised shoulder of pork matched with potato, parsnip and apple purée, and mushroom and cider sauce. Bread is made on the premises and, for dessert, there's panettone bread-and-butter pudding with salted caramel ice cream.
