The first radio signal was transmitted to the Isle of Wight from the beacon ship after which this coastal pub is named. That nautical history is honoured in the design theming in the present-day restaurant, where seashells and ships' accoutrements abound. Brasserie classics and international dishes are the orders of the day, starting perhaps with a Thai-style salad of crispy, sticky pork, and sailing on with beef bourguignon, creamy dauphinoise and buttered greens. Crab and lobster linguine, served with lemon-dressed tomato and rocket salad, feels right in the seaside circumstances, but then so does a triumphant chocolate-laced bread-and-butter pudding to finish.
