The Running Horse is a revitalised village inn with a relaxed and informal dining environment: a wood-burning stove in a brick fireplace, some banquette seating, wooden tables and a mixture of artwork adorning the walls. The kitchen delivers stimulating full-flavoured dishes. Blow-torched scallops with mussels and samphire get things off to a great start - light and simple in concept, with clean flavours. Butter-poached chicken Kiev, with girolles, mash and kale, is food to make you smile: well-conceived, perfectly cooked and neatly presented. For dessert the vanilla rice pudding with ginger cake and cranberry gel is a real winner.
