A contemporary hotel on the north shore of Hayling Island enjoying sweeping views towards Chichester Harbour. There is brasserie cooking of real flair here; witness goats' cheese and beetroot, the latter element appearing in salt-baked, sweet-pickled, grilled and raw guises, along with goats' cheese mousse and a distant waft of elderflower. Mains run to curried cod with pearl barley and grilled leeks, or a bravura take on duck and cherries, with succulent breast and rillettes of the leg-meat, as well as a slice of potato terrine. A speciality steak menu woos traditionalists, with fairground treats such as a dish of peanut parfait covered in popcorn and chocolate peanuts to finish.
