Known as BVI to its friends, this village pub has become a magnet for local foodies, with its main dining area in a converted barn with soaring beams and a contemporary, rustic-chic look. The menu presses the comfort button with an interesting mix of pub classics, down-to-earth cooking and an evangelical keenness for local produce. Warm ham hock is served with piccalilli running through, along with a crispy poached egg, home-made ketchup and salt and pepper crisps, then splendid local venison flavoured with honey and cumin comes with carrots, beetroot and balsamic jus. For pudding, there's treacle tart with pistachio ice cream.
