Favourites and fancier in a homely Hampshire pub

The Bakers Arms is a whitewashed pub with a warmly welcoming atmosphere generated by hands-on young staff, an open fire and ceiling beams. The regularly-changing menu (with favourites like sausage and mash with onion gravy remaining constant) concentrates on great British traditions with forays further afield - pub grub this is not. Beautifully made smoked ham hock terrine is served with vibrant ale and onion chutney, to be followed by crisp-skinned pan-fried sea bass fillet, of melt-in-the-mouth consistency, on couscous with roast vegetables and coriander oil, or pan-fried kidneys with pancetta and horseradish mash. Desserts could include orange and lemon cake with clotted cream.
