Built in 1883, the creeper-clad house has the dual charm of ravishing gardens and stone's-throw proximity to Criccieth's beach. A majestic staircase, oak panelling and comfortable country-house furniture give the right impression, though the Garden Room restaurant offers a more contemporary experience, with bare tables and Modern Welsh cooking. An inventive roll call of dishes runs from pan-fried scallops with spiced pork belly, and fennel and cider apple salad, to mains such as Welsh lamb rib with aubergine, wild garlic, anchovy dressing and Jersey Royal salad. End on a high with peanut butter parfait, served with ginger crumb, banana tart and chocolate.
