The Rose Garden could be mistaken for a contemporary art space, its minimal gleaming-white ambience enlivened with punches of glaring colour. Pacey, on-point service contributes to an urban boho atmosphere, and the modern European bistro food does the rest. Softly braised octopus forms the centrepiece of a salad of heritage tomato, onion, fennel, croûtons and chilli, and might precede a juxtaposition of turbot fillet and snails with wilted baby gem in seaweed-salty spring vegetable nage. Squid salsa is inveigled into a main of pork belly and pineapple, and herbal fragrance lends character to desserts such as chocolate and rosemary delice with Italian meringue and a walnut tuile.
