Enfield Chase ('chace' in medieval times) was once a royal deer park. The Royal Chace Hotel stands in pretty grounds and is a popular place, not least for weddings. Much admired too is the elegant, first-floor Brasserie (with no lift access) offering linen-clothed tables with candles and fresh flowers, and modern British cooking. Start with seared scallops, sweetcorn purée, crispy pancetta, tempura tiger prawn and lemon-scented samphire, follow with grilled chicken breast on carrot with ginger, Madeira cream sauce and sweet potato crisps. You may well want to end with vanilla crème brûlée and fruit compôte.
